We are looking for a Director to join our Client & Capital Strategy team in London.


The successful candidate will lead the Client & Capital Strategy team within the Central Portfolio Management (CPM) function.

As the head of the Client & Capital Strategy team you will be responsible for working with the head of CPM and senior CIB colleagues to help EMEA achieve its financial objectives through the active management of the balance sheet.

You will lead your team and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise portfolio performance and contribute to the overall success of CIB Banking.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the EMEA Capital Investment Framework by which clients and capital requests are screened and approved by the relevant Committee. This will include reviewing and opining on Front Office’s (FO) profitability models prior to the Committee, interrogating the business cases at the Committee alongside other Senior Management and, in the absence of the Head of CPM, chairing the Committee and voting to approve the business case/deal/capital request.
  • Ensure capital is deployed across EMEA and all FO Groups according to strategic objectives.
  • Implement various strategic client & capital initiatives across EMEA, including but not limited to: Non-Core portfolio selection, account planning, sector & country reviews, floor & target rate setting
  • Manage key internal stakeholders to ensure there is an understanding of how and why the Bank approves capital requests, how these fit with the Bank strategy and how we can improve RORA (Return on RWA) and Revenue in EMEA
  • Work with CPM Client Analytics to develop an MI suite to monitor and analyse the performance of banking clients, portfolios and products. Guide CPM Client Analytics in the development of Client Profitability analysis tools to support Front Office coverage teams. Utilising these portfolio analytics provide strategic recommendations to the head of CPM and CIB management and act as a lead in execution for portfolio enhancements, expansion or discontinuation as required
  • Conduct CIB Portfolio reviews with key CIB members on a regular basis, identifying unprofitable elements and recommending opportunities for growth or risk mitigation
  • Enhance relationships with internal stakeholders, being a key point of contact and SME on Client and Portfolio Profitability data related matters.
  • Lead the CCS Team through coaching, mentorship and the creation of an atmosphere of collaboration and high performance


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • 10 years of experience in banking, preferably with experience of Portfolio Management or similar Business Management
  • Proven leadership experience
  • In depth knowledge of banking products, financial markets, portfolio management structures and techniques and regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior executives and stakeholders
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to think creatively, adapting to changing market conditions
  • Educated to University Degree level in a mathematical subject with professional qualifications or aspirations to complete professional qualifications
  • Strong team player, confident self-starter with excellent communication skills
