Profile Summary

The Energy & Utilities universe consists of the sub-sectors integrated energy/oil & gas, utilities and commodities & mining. The primary focus for the incumbent is to support or take the lead in the marketing and origination of new business opportunities globally across the European client universe, support the origination of new advisory mandates, as well as to support managing the risk and credit exposure of the portfolio. The incumbent works alongside other Associate Directors across all three sub-sector, but the main focus for this role is on energy related clients and therefore an energy background is pre-requisite for the role.


Duties and Responsibilities
•    Support or take the lead in managing and developing existing and prospective global client relationships across the European portfolio. Work in tandem with sector heads and senior country coverage bankers in Continental Europe. Subject to experience, manage a subset of inbound client relationships.
•    Demonstrate a strong understanding of the issues and drivers of the sector and support the efforts to establish Mizuho as a trusted advisor. Manage the content library of the team.
•    Support or take the lead in the ideas generation and development of creative solutions and elevate corporate finance dialogue with the client universe. Support efforts to maximise income generation, cross sell opportunities, and return on risk capital. Manage the pipeline of opportunities of the client set.
•    Work closely with the head of utilities and head of integrated energy companies / oil & gas to build a joint narrative on the energy transition. Collaborate on ESG related issues and KPIs.
•    Collaborate with product (corporate and investment bank) and credit teams in Europe and globally. Support or take a lead in orchestrating coverage and product teams across the Group with a problem solver / solutions focus. Support the head of the team to establish regular internal and external sector forums as part of the networking and marketing of Mizuho in the sector.
•    Take responsibility for financial modelling and the preparation of client presentations. Oversee and guide the specific work of the analyst and associate team.
•    Manage credit related client requests / proposals through the Mizuho credit approval process. Take responsibility for the preparation of analysis and business rationale that supports requests.
•    Adhere to the Dual Hat Policies & Procedures when acting in a dual hat capacity for the corporate bank (Mizuho Bank (MHBK)) and the investment bank (Mizuho International (MHI)).


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

•    Demonstrable experience in corporate finance and corporate banking related topics for the energy sector
•    Advisory-led, client focussed and problems/solutions orientated, pooled with origination and execution capabilities
•    Able to anticipate and move fast, work in an agile manner and must be a creative thinker.
•    Collaborator and team player with excellent communication skills.
•    Experience in monitoring and managing global credit lines.
•    University Degree or equivalent with professional qualifications.
•    Language skills
